Mango rain associates the two things Indians love most – mangoes and rain! This interesting nomenclature have an interesting theory behind it.
The term – Mango rains is a colloquial term to describe the occurrence of pre-monsoon rainfall, generally in April. Arrival of these rain gives us two reasons to rejoice. Firstly, it gives some much needed relief to the scorching summer heat.
And secondly, and more importantly, it means that Mango season has officially begun!! These pre-monsoon showers help in the early ripening of mangoes and are hence often referred to as “Mango showers.”
They are also known as ‘Kaal Baisakhi’ in Bengal, as Bordoisila in Assam and as Cherry Blossom showers or Coffee Showers in Kerala.
