Understanding the effects of chemicals in our food is a bit like one of those things that once you know, you can’t help but notice it all the time. You can’t un-know the damage you are doing to your body.
I found myself in a peculiar situation because, at the time, Farmizen didn’t deliver vegetables without owning a mini-farm. Now when I was doing my monthly groceries at the supermarket, I found my self giving the vegetable section a miss.
Enter Farmizen Tribes – Having signed up for Farmizen tribes, all I’ve had to do is mobilize a few neighbors to buy with me and we get fresh fruits and vegetables delivered to our society twice a week.
On a recent visit to Abhay farms in Mysore, I really discovered the beauty of naturally ripening fruits. I ate a banana, ripened on the tree. It was a fairly commonplace variety – Robusta, but hand on heart, it was the most flavorful banana I’ve ever eaten.
Having met these natural farmers, seeing these processes and the care that goes into each fruit or vegetable that you get not only gives you a newfound respect for your food but also gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are eating clean food.
Another great development since my Farmizen Tribes subscription is that I’m getting to experiment with so many new ingredients that I’d never even heard of. Like Doddapatre or Ajwain leaves. I saw it on the tribe store and thought I’d give it a try. It was supposed to have medicinal properties too. Lo and behold, a few weeks in, I’m making Doddapatre chutney with dinner and Doddapatre tea to nurse my flu.
This Tribes experience really puts the fun back in food. Enough of the rinse-and-repeat vegetable rotation we’re used to. With delicious ingredients and a vast catalog, it’s a great way to keep things interesting.
